This 1887-O Morgan Silver Dollar left the New Orleans Mint during a year of American expansion, when the Interstate Commerce Act was signed and the nation continued pushing west. It may have circulated through Southern ports, river trade, or growing cities as silver from western mines flowed into everyday commerce. George T. Morgan’s Liberty and eagle design, struck in 90% silver, carries the look of the Gilded Age with appealing original toning that highlights the remaining detail.
